This is the first book in a series I actually came across only a couple of weeks ago. I can not really remember how I found it but I do remember reading the summary on Goodreads and thinking. NEED!!!
And I did not hesitate ordering the first two books of this series.
I promised myself to wait with reading them until my summer holiday and it was torture to wait. Even tough it was only just a few weeks.
Finally at the campsite I dove into it and finished it whole in just a couple of days. You can say I devoured it. I am so not regretting buying these books. And I felt really stupid for not bringing the second book in the series with me as well.
I found the world Caris Roane has created in this book very refreshing. There are really a whole lot of vampire themed books out there and sometimes you can feel like you are reading yet another vampire book with the same old story in it as the last dozen you have read. Well, not this one.
It is like none I have ever read before (and I have had a lot) and it's a lot of fun discovering all about this world as you read on.
The characters are easy to love and I really liked the fact that both main characters had a history. a lot of times there is one character that has had a simple standard one in a dozen life, and the other has this huge history. Which sometimes makes you feel the one character is less worked out than the other. But I found that both main characters in this story had a well worked out past which defined them and made them interesting.
Also this book has a good balance between the romance and plot parts. No irritating endless sex scenes, or moments you yearn for more romance. Nope, perfect balance.
It's ending will surely leave you wanting more. So my tip will be, order the second book along with the first one. If you don't you might think yourself a fool for not doing so when you finish.
I know what I am going to do now I am back home.
Yup, read it's sequal Chains of darkness

Movies I want to see: The Danish girl
Movie Trailer

Geek Girl Movie Talk
This is a movie that is a little outside of my usual comfort zone of movies. But I saw this trailer pop by on my Facebook news feed and it intrigued me and caught my attention.
Easy click of the button and I was off watching this trailer. "Dayum!!!" That was all I could think for the firsts few seconds, after which the only thing still on my mind was. When can I see it? I NEED to see this one.
The trailer sure did a really good job of getting my interest. It seemed to me the actors were perfectly fit to play the characters they do and with that it seemed that the level of acting was of really high quality. Though I find it hard to believe a movie could suck ass with an actor as Eddy Redmayne in it. (I really do think he is a very good actor indeed, kind of adore this man *blush*)
And honestly. He makes one hell of a pretty lady! *shock* There I said it!
To bad I have to wait until 2016 to be able to see it in theaters here in the Netherlands. Big Boo for that. But this one is officially on my to watch list now!

Book Review: Raziel by Kristina Douglas
Back Cover Talk
The facts:
Title: Raziel
Author: Kristina Douglas
Pages: 384
Publisher: Pocket books
Published in: jan 25th 2011
Category: paranormal romance
The Back Cover summary:
She was just an ordinary mortal . . .
“You’re dead” is so not what Allie Watson wants to hear. Unfortunately, it explains a lot. Like the dark, angelically handsome man who ferried her to this strange, hidden land. The last thing she remembers is stepping off a curb in front of a crosstown bus. Now she’s surrounded by gorgeous fallen angels with an unsettling taste for blood—and they really don’t want her around. Not exactly how she pictured heaven.
. . . until death catapulted her into a seductive world she never imagined.
Raziel is unsure why he rescued Allie from hellfire against Uriel’s orders, but she stirs in him a longing he hasn't felt in centuries. Now the Fallen are bracing for the divine wrath brought by his disobedience, and they blame Allie for the ferocious Nephilim clawing at the kingdom’s shrouded gates. Facing impossible odds at every turn, the two must work together to survive. Raziel will do anything to defend his spirited lover against the forces of darkness—because Allie may be the Fallen’s only salvation.

I have had this one on my shelf for such a long time.
Every time I had to choose a new book to reed, this one would get picked up and but down again because I went for another book.
But finally I decided I should probably go and read it.
It's summary and cover had always drawn me in. Every time I picked it up. There was almost do doubt in my mind that I would not like this book.
And though it took some time for me to get all wrapped up in it's story, it did not disappoint me at all.
I really loved the way Kristina Douglas came a refreshing new world around the "Fallen" angel subject. I really enjoyed getting to know the world he has created in his book.
The main characters are absolutely to die for. I loved how the female main characters is a strong person and not some kind of damsel-in-distress, one-look-at-the-handsome-man-and-sweep-me-right-off-my-feet kind of girl. And I really found the snarkyness and sometimes sarcastic ways of both main characters a real delight.
This book has surely left me wanting more. I want to know how the story will go on, and I want to know it now, preferably. But I guess I have to wait as I can not order the second book Demon, as it is sold out. The horror!!!!!!! How will I live?

Geek Girl Piccu's: Angel
Picture
Geek Girl Talk
Sometimes the life of a geek does not all evolve around books, movies, BJD's, comics, games and all those kinds of things. Sometimes it's all about he living things like for example Pets.My pets mean the world to me. They are part of my family just as much as my parents, my male and my best friends are. They are special to me and I love them very much.
I am a huge fan of Bunnies. I currently have three adorable rabbits.
This pretty is my bunny girl Angel, who we lovingly call Gelly.
She is a spunky little girl. She is very territorial over her cage, because she is as good as blind in one eye and we are not sure the other one is working properly as well. She can see, but not very well.
But we respect her and we handle her carefully so she never gets frightened when we enter her cage.
Though she may seem a real Devil inside of her cage with her growling and attacking if you do not know how to approach her. When you get her out of her cage and onto your lap you have the sweetest little cuddler you can imagine.

OOOOOOOHHHH MYYYYYYY GAAAAAWWWDDDDDD.
I so wanna see this movie.
For one... it's marvel. (need I say more?)
Second.... I always have been a huge "secretive" Ryan Reynolds fan. (yep, you just got a huge confession there!!!!!)
Third of all It's effing deadpool!!!!! (I repeat, need I say more?)
I can not wait. Action packed with a buttload of humor with as big swirl awesomeness and you have got my attention. Or atleast... that is what the trailer is telling me.
The only downside that I can see, is that I have to wait so incredibly long to be able to go and see it.
2016, holy crappers. It surely will be a though long wait.
But I am seeing it with a positive note, it must really be worth the wait, right?

I was very happy and also very sad when my friend loaned me this book to read. As I just did not have the funds to buy it myself. I was so happy I could finally read the end of this tale that has had me in it's grip for several years. And The sad part came because I knew this was THE very last book in this series. It would all end with this book. And I kind of did not want it to end.
But I dove into the book, and just as I did with all the others in this series, it caught me by the very first words. What I find very pleasant in Ellen Schreiber books is that it does not take you all that long to really feel like you are in the story, perhaps even part of the story. It only took a few sentences and it was as if I was home.
What I love in this book is that all the characters you know from the first books are still there. And Ellen even managed to pop in a total new character. Which I think is a really awesome one at that.
The way this book was written was in my eyes prefect. It felt good, the flow of the book was good, it had no slow parts or parts where you might feel it's going to fast. It's easy to read and you can just enjoy the story without having to think all to much about it. The only thing you keep thinking is.. "How will it end!!??!"
And I am not even going to talk about the ending of the book. Worried I might spoil it to other readers who have not yet had a change to read it. So no opinion from me on that part.
But the story in this book really is once again amazing. I could not wish for better.
The verdict:
A book that fantastic and is worthy of the series., but leaves you sad at the ending, knowing it won't ever come back.

I have had this book sitting on my shelves for quite some time now, and yesterday I came across it when reorganizing my bookcases. Yes yesterday, you read that correct.
That is how fast I devoured this book. Although I must say that by the unique way this book is written you will fly through the pages. No kidding.
It took a little getting used to the way Lisa Schroeder has written this book since it is as different from other "Normal" books like day and night. This book is written to what for me resembles a poem form or journal style most. If you look at the pages, they do not contain a whole lot of worlds like you will find in a "normal" book. A page packed with little word but the few words that do contain these pages are pure and hit home just as good as any normal page would. The chapters or poems/journal entries are sometimes a few pages long, and sometimes just a few lines. No matter how long or short they are, they all bring something special to this story.
Even though it took me a little getting used to, very soon I found that this story caught me and did not seemed to want to let me to. Nor did I want to let the book go. I had to. Since I had to get some sleep in sometime.
I confess I hardly ever cry when reading a book, but this book made me cry! Big watery tears down my cheeks, a box of tissues always near.
It a very relatable story. And I think that that is exactly where it's power of this story really lies.
I found it very easy to connect with the main character Alice. And I found my own heart going out for this girl throughout the story.
I am not going to let any words out on how this book will end. I think that is something for the future reader to find out. All I will tell is that it is worth it.
Bind all of the things above together and you have yourself a must read.
I am sure about it.
A book you will pick up and will not put down until you have reached the end.
It sure made me curious towards the other books Lisa Schroeder has written. I am surely going to pick those up to.
The verdict
A beautiful relating story and a unique way of writing.

Ever since this movie was released I have been wanting to see it
But I never got to seeing it in the cinema's as it only showed in 3D and I am not a huge 3D fan.
But last week I discovered Film 1 was going to show the movie. I noted the date on my calander and yesterday me and The Male posted out behind on the couch and watched it.
At first I though... Damn this movie looks a whole lot like the Three musketiers movie from 1993, only with other players. Link to 1993 movie: Click.
And I would know as I have seen the 1993 movie a thousand times. (Yes I like that movie)
So I was kind of confused about that. I was hoping for something new, as the trailers had promised.
But after that beginning part, the movie took on a total different story. Which I ofcourse liked.
I do must confess that some of the special effects, especially in the first few minutes of the movie, were a bit overdone, and looked so fake, it made me laugh. Later on in the movie the effects did got better, and where less fake, but still you can easily point them out.
This movie was made out to be a steampunk movie. And since I am a steamer myself, I kind of was looking for that steam part in this movie. Yes there where some steampunk elements, which where at some points really awesome. So not real disappointments there. I especially loved how they mad ethe airships. They where just as I would have imagined airships whould have been if there really would have been a steampunk era. So, plus points for that.
Although I would more likely call it a movie with steampunk elements, instead of a Steampunk movie.
When looking at the story itself. I was quite an interesting story. I liked the plot. Which I think is something that has to be said. It kept me interested, kept me on the edge of my seat, I had not problems with staying concentrated on the movie itself, even when my kitty was being a pain in the behind.
Ofcourse a good movie is also is made possible by a great cast that did what they should do. Put down great characters and a great movie.
I found that being a adventure movie, it also has some hilarious moments. Which I always really like.
Come to think of it. I do not really have abything bad to say about it except for the somewhat irritatingly overdone special effects in the beginning of the movie.
Need I say more? ;)
Conclusion: A great fantasy adventure movie
Would I watch it again?: yes!
Who would I reccomend this movie to: Steampunk lovers and lovers of fantasy adventure movies

Re-posting old movie and book reviews
Geek Girl Updates
Most of you won't know this, and I can not blame you for it as it has been light years ago.
But I used to have a blog I dedicated to book and movie reviews. The blog (of which I can not really remember the name of anymore, it has been that long ago) is long gone and deleted. BUT! I did save all the reviews I did on a back up.
I think it's a shame they just sit there.

I think it's a shame they just sit there.
Unshared and unloved and unread.
So that is why I decided to re-post them on this blog.
I will be doing some editing to the layout and how I present them as the layouts just do not fit this blog anymore. But slowly they will, one by one, find their way back onto the world wide web.
The old reviews will be combined with new ones, because I did not stop watching movies or reading books. And all of them deserve to be scrutinized by little geeky me. *Wink wink*
So keep an eye or a telescope, what ever suits you preferences, out for the reviews to come!

It is no lie that I am a girl that prefers Marvel over DC. I will never deny it. But there is one exception. One exception to this rule, the one exception that is overruling every Marvel hero there is.And that is Batman. It is not persee Batman that I love most. I love his villains very much as well. Sometimes even more so that I do the Batman. I just love the insane level of evil they have. With the emphasis on Insane. So when They announced this movie I was over the moon. They trailer show so much promise without spoiling to much (which I find trailer as of late really do too much)
The feel of movie, the level of pure insanity and evil. I can't wait for this movie to hits the theaters.

Madame Tussauds
Geek Girl Talk
Madame Tussauds.
Never before in my 30 ear old life have I visited a Madame Tussauds museum. I have passed the ones in London en Amsterdam so many times. But never have I went inside.
That was....until last Wednesday.
A very close friend of mine and myself had received a discount voucher from another close friend for out birthday's.
And we decided to cash that voucher in at Madame Tussaud's because it was the one thing that was easy to reach for us both as we both do not have out drivers licence. And it was something we both never really visited before.
So armed with my SLR camera we went inside after having to wait 20 minutes outside in the sun. (ouch for me skin that was XD)
Ofcourse we made a whole lot of pictures with the wax celebrities. But one thing we did not do, was take normal "Say cheeese"pictures.
No, me and my friend kind of have the same level of happy crazy. And that kind of shows through in our pictures.
(for the people wondering, I'm the geek with the glasses ;) )
